A full moon slides slowly upward like a silver dollar into an ethereal purple sky. Stars twinkle and wink at the cold deep blue of the snowy plains far below. Peaceful hills rise softly and quietly into the horizon. Starkly contrasting the serenity of nature's moment are tall and gangly silhouettes. Grasshoppers, or nodding donkeys of sorts. These pump jacks are symbolic of many things but mainly money. Like the rising and falling of their very selves, these strange mechanical beasts help facilitate the prosperity, or the lack thereof, of the Saskatchewan oil patch and the people that live therein.
