Abandoned Farm

  • Scattered across Canada’s prairie provinces, with their wide-open plains and hidden valleys, are numerous abandoned farmsteads.  These relics of history are stark representations of the problematic, tireless past forged by hard-working, often immigrant laborers searching for better lives for themselves and their families, often unaware of the struggles they’d need to endure through bitter Canadian winters.  The lonely, isolated sentiment in the painting conveys the expanse of the seemingly endless plains with a hint of a valley in the distance and serves as a ghostly reminder of the often unseen groundwork laid by those who formed the bedrock of our countries.
