Few animals are more connected with Florida than the dolphin, with the possible exception of the gator. The Sunshine State is rife with opportunities to engage with them, whether in aquariums or at sea, from merely viewing them to swimming with them in Florida. The wild dolphin population in Estero Bay, the portion of the Intracoastal Waterway that separates Fort Myers Beach from the mainland, is well-known. A foray into the sheltered waters, which are part of the 100-mile Great Calusa Blueway paddling trail, almost always results in a dolphin sighting.
